Why Filmmakers Like Different Films Than Critics

I've been both a critic and a filmmaker, and I've noticed from having spent time around both that they think differently. They see differently. What does one group care about, that the other doesn't notice? How does this impact how we viewers think about films?

Could the medium be missing something, when almost all scholarly discourse on cinema is  by people without filmmaking experience? Is there any other field where this would be tolerated?
