WINNER, Tokyo Int'l Short Film Festival: Interview!
My film, Men I Trust, has won itself another laurel: Best Editing, at Tokyo International Short Film Festival! We spent over a year editing this picture, which is long for a short film (33 minutes) and involves multiple time periods, memories and flash-forwards. Thank you, Tokyo, for recognizing our efforts! More on the film here.

i took it to the seattle center.
i walked past the space needle, in to the food court, and smelled cinnamon buns.
i walked outside, & saw 14 dogs playing in a grass field in between the food court & the international fountain.
Several dogs came to sniff me, their owners frantically calling, as I quietly whistled to the dogs to come nearer.
then i went to the olympic sculpture garden, it was BBBBOOOROIORING!
then I walked the seattle waterfront.
first i walked along the old tracks, then the boardwalk.
i asked a girl with green pants on the boardwalk, a modern foreigner,
"hi, is green your favorite color?"
'she said "yes!"
i said "mine too!"
I continued walking.
i tried to get inside the Seattle Aquarium to see the octopus, but since it was later, around sunset, it was reserved for private events only. i tried twice, “to see the octopus”, but wasn’t allowed in, by the same security lady.
instead, i played soccer at Pier 62, watching the sunset, & being careful of my shoulder. i watched the beautiful orange sunset.
after sunset and walking South, I alked to a fireman of Firehouse #5 about his job. he said it pays starting at $82k a yr.
"wow, that’s a lot!" I said.
but the fire house seems too militaristic, or police-y for me.
Doubtful that i would enjoy the job, i said to the fireman “there’s no females”
he felt defensive and said “actually, there’s “10% females”
heheh.
"That's very low" I thought.
As the forestation garage door closed, A couple asked me where the ferry was. I checked the guy's phone, then pointed to the ferry and the new dock currently under construction, right behind us. I was glad to be helpful.
On the bus home, I met a driver named nathan. he was nice. he said his favorite animal is birds. I wonder, what species of bird is his favorite? Is it the yellow beaked ibis he spoke of? The pigeon or crow? I regret to say I do not know. Upon reflection, this is my biggest regret of the night.
in other news, I have been Reading Les Misérables. It is a good book. I like the priest, of first book, who is so good that you cannot help but like him. He is a good man! I do not know what will happen to him. he is holy. I used to go to church. But, I have learned you do not have to go to church to be holy.
I remember the church of my childhood and adolescence, called Calvary Chapel South.
Then, I saw a well respected man, a greeter for the church, & a prominent Green Bay Packers fan, kick a homeless man & his bike right out of the church lobby that we all had helped build.
