Not sure how I stumbled onto your blog, but I really appreciate your positivity in the speech. I've worked in hospitals and there's a similar conundrum with patients - we like to label them as 'good' and 'bad' - but the real challenge is how to get in that 'frame of mind,' as you call it, that makes us really want to connect with people no matter how much of the 'other' they appear to be.
